Soliciting Nominations for the Third MMF

filed under , 23 February 2010, 19:17 by

Please read these two introductions to the concept of the Manga Moveable Feast:

The question I’d like to pose to the manga-biased internet is: What Do We Read Next?

Nominations for the third MMF can be made in the comments of this post, or via Twitter — I’ll compile all noms into an online poll posted to this website (I’ll include links here and there so even if you miss it on the main page you’ll be able to find it).

I hope to announce a ‘winner’ on 6 March — but of course a list of all nominated series will be passed on to the next MMF host for consideration for the May topic, so your favs will have 2nd and 3rd and nth chances even if they don’t win this time.

Update 11pm 24 Feb: Nominations will close in 24 hours. Before midnight tomorrow, I’ll compile all suggested titles into an online poll; voting in this poll will remain open until 6 March. Just to be clear: your comments below do not count as votes yet, so please come back and click a couple of buttons on Friday.

Update 10am 26 Feb: The poll is up — please take a moment to vote for the next title for the Manga Moveable Feast.

  1. from Ed Sizemore via twitter: @ProfessorBlind It just hit me. It’s obvious what the third one should be ...Mushishi.

  2. I’d definitely be up for a “Mushishi” roundtable. Not nearly enough people are reading that one.

    Comment by David Welsh — 23 February 2010, 19:54 #

  3. Nausicaa. It’s out of print, but pretty inexpensive/easy to obtain

    Comment by ScottGreen — 24 February 2010, 08:16 #

  4. I’ll give a third vote to Mushishi! I’ve reviewed it a lot already but I could definitely go for a discussion of the series in general.

    Comment by Melinda Beasi — 24 February 2010, 08:39 #

  5. I’m okay with either Nausicaa (which I’ve read) or Mushishi (which I haven’t).

Other possibilities could include Paradise Kiss or Revolutionary Girl Utena.

    Comment by Michelle Smith — 24 February 2010, 08:52 #

  6. Mushishi or Paradise Kiss sound good to me! Though, if we wanted to be super scifi, we could do Pluto!

    Comment by Sam Kusek — 24 February 2010, 09:45 #

  7. Can I vote if I haven’t participated? Mushishi or Black Jack :D

  8. I would be interested in seeing peoples’ perceptions of Time and Again. It’s a supernatural manhwa series currently being serialized in Yen Plus; the second collected volume will be released in March. It’s something of a cautionary tale; each chapter generally involves a prideful or duplicitous character receiving their just deserts.

    Comment by Garrett Albright — 24 February 2010, 16:16 #

  9. I’d prefer Mushishi over Time and Again. Looking forward to doing Emma for the 2nd MMF.

    Comment by Alexander Hoffman — 24 February 2010, 22:43 #

  10. Mushishi

    Comment by hniu — 25 February 2010, 07:57 #

  11. I’d be OK with Mushishi, though it would be nice to balance longer series with short ones. My votes would be for done-in-one books such as A, A’, Ohikkoshi, Tekkon Kinkreet, or Voices of a Distant Star.

    Comment by Katherine Dacey — 25 February 2010, 08:42 #

  12. @Katherine Dacey #11: thanks for the suggestions. I think Mushishi is an early favourite in this straw poll, but your nominations are exactly what I was looking for.

While my vote is going elsewhere, I’d also like to add After School Nightmare and Penguin Revolution to the list of potential candidates.

    Comment by Matt Blind — 25 February 2010, 13:38 #

  13. I second the Paradise Kiss recommendation.

Yes, all the links are broken.

On June 1, 2015 (after 6 years and 11 months) I needed to relaunch/restart this blog, or at least rekindle my interest in maintaining and updating it.

Rather than delete and discard the whole thing, I instead moved the blog -- database, cms, files, archives, and all -- to this subdomain. When you encounter broken links (and you will encounter broken links) just change the URL in the address bar from www.rocketbomber.com to archive.rocketbomber.com.

I know this is inconvenient, and for that I apologise. In addition to breaking tens of thousands of links, this also adversely affects the blog visibility on search engines -- but that, I'm willing to live with. Between the Wayback Machine at Archive.org and my own half-hearted preservation efforts (which you are currently reading) I feel nothing has been lost, though you may have to dig a bit harder for it.

As always, thank you for reading. Writing version 1.0 of Rocket Bomber was a blast. For those that would like to follow me on the 2.0 - I'll see you back on the main site.
